Hartford Business Journal: The Shops adds new tenants and an expansion in 2021

A french-fry eatery, mattress store, and physical therapy practice are slated to open soon at Canton’s Shops at Farmington Valley, adding to recent growth at the retail center.

The Jefferson Fry Co. restaurant and BodyFit Physical Therapy will open later in the summer while a new Sleep Number store is already in operation, the center announced.

The Shops at Farmington restaurant is the third for Jefferson Fry Co., which offers flavored fries. The chain first opened in Cromwell and also operates at Hartford’s Parkville Market.

“It’s a beautiful development. It was a no-brainer for us,” Jefferson Fry owner Emmet Moore said of the new location. “There seems to be a great buzz in the valley — the Avon, Farmington, Canton area. There’s a great mix of people, lots of young people and families.”

In addition to the new tenants, Valley Kids Co. is expanding and Harvey & Lewis Opticians is moving into a larger location at the center.

Traffic is up 20% at the Shops at Farmington since May 19, when the CDC announced relaxed pandemic restrictions, according to General Manager Liz Ackerman.
